How to use this rental calculator
Begin with an estimated daily rental price and number of days. Add fees, parking or extras you expect to pay. Then enter your trip distance, approximate fuel economy, and a planning fuel price.
Keep a possible security deposit or temporary card hold separate from what the trip is expected to cost. Provider policies differ. Always compare the complete supplier quote before booking.
Useful rental math
Fuel cost estimate: distance in miles ÷ miles per gallon × dollars per gallon.
Rental estimate: daily rate × days + additional charges + estimated fuel.
Conversion: 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers.
RENTAL QUESTIONS / ANSWERED
Rental fuel questions
Do I have to pay for fuel upfront?
Not necessarily. Some providers offer prepaid fuel as an option, while others require you to return the tank at the agreed level. Check your specific rental agreement.
Is prepaid fuel cheaper?
It depends on your expected fuel use and the provider’s price. Returning a car with unused prepaid fuel may reduce the value of the option.
Can I estimate my fuel budget?
Yes. Divide expected miles by estimated miles per gallon and multiply by an estimated price per gallon. This is planning math, not a live pump price.
